#104 Michael and David

OUR RAINBOW FAMILY – Michael Young, David Haddon, Merlin & Millie. We met in 2000 at an ABBA Convention in Melbourne. Michael was President of the Australian ABBA Fan Club at the time and organised a dinner/show event called ABBAVision. David was a member of the club, and we are both lifelong ABBA fans.

We had our first dinner date the following week and have been together now for 15 years. After a year of living on opposite sides of the city we decided to try cohabitating. A year later we felt it was time to buy our own home and found the perfect property in Werribee where we still live.

We love our “quiet life in the suburbs” and visitors to our home comment on the peaceful oasis we have created there. For much of our time in Werribee we felt isolated from the GLBTI community, so we started Wyndham Rainbow Neighbours Inc. community group in 2012 after talking with local council staff at their first Midsumma event in Wyndham. Since then, we have made some wonderful friends and had the privilege of impacting the way our local council and community respond to their GLBTI residents.

So now it’s not such a “quiet life” but certainly very productive and interesting. We adopted Merlin and Millie in 2010. They are our “fur kids” as we have no children of our own nor do we want to. The comfort and love they give their two “dads” is priceless. Our Rainbow Family is now complete!
