#9 Eleanor, Kat and family

My partner Kat and I have been together for 4 years and have two children.

Kat and I were on the Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight show when he did the mass same sex wedding because we believe that Australia needs marriage reform. It is important to us that our relationship is given the same legal weight as any other couple in Australia. We want our children to know that our family is just as important and equal to the other families that they know. That our country does not think that same sex couples are less than heterosexual couples. Or that our relationship is in some way unworthy. I’m sure I don’t need to go on with the politics surrounding the issue.

However, I think that marriage reform needs to include giving better legal rights to de-facto couples of either hetero or homo relationships because let’s face it, not every couple wants to get married, but every long-term couple should be entitled to apply for the allowances given to married couples (in my opinion).
