#84 Elizabeth and Taryn

Growing up, I thought getting married was just what you did. I wanted a dress just like Charlene’s when she married Scott in Neighbours. Luckily, my tastes have changed since the ’80s.
It never occurred to me that I would grow up and not be allowed to get married in my own country.

We got married in Vancouver, without telling our families beforehand. The secrecy upset some of them. We didn’t feel right asking them to fly overseas to be at our wedding, instead choosing to have none of them present rather than only those who could afford to be. Ironically, we were worried about what would be fair to everyone else.

We’ll celebrate with our families when the law changes here. Hopefully soon. Taryn’s already said no to the Charlene dresses and the gypsophila in my hair.
